Occupational Therapy (OT) is a health profession that empowers people of all ages to overcome barriers in their everyday lives so they can do more and live better. OTs are university educated professionals that apply their specialized knowledge and skills to recommend a course of preventive or corrective action that will help people lead more productive and satisfying lives, trained to understand not only the medical and physical limitations of a disability or injury, but also the psychosocial factors that affect the functioning of the whole person – their health and their wellness, and a regulated medical profession; occupational therapists must be registered with their provincial regulator in order to practice legally in Canada.

Sierra is passionate about working collaboratively with families to establish goals, educate, and individualize treatment to ensure the delivery of effective client-centered therapy. Sierra completed her Master of Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto in 2019, and is a member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario. Sierra’s practice has focused on the assessment and treatment of children with difficulties with handwriting, fine motor, feeding/picky eating, executive functioning, sensory integration, self-regulation, and social skills in schools and community settings. With a background in Psychology, Sierra was inspired to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy after extensive volunteering and working with children and youth with complex, physical, cognitive, and developmental disabilities. In her spare time, Sierra enjoys cooking, being outdoors, and training in Muay Thai.

Emma Melo, MScOT, OT Reg. (Ont.), is a registered occupational therapist who is dedicated to working with children and families in creative ways to promote participation in meaningful daily activities. Emma is an enthusiastic practitioner with experience working with individuals who have physical, cognitive, and psychosocial considerations. With her background in Early Childhood Studies, Emma believes in incorporating creativity and play into her sessions to maximize client engagement and personalized goal achievement. In addition to her role at CATs, Emma is a school-based occupational therapist through Ontario’s largest children’s treatment centre. Emma is dedicated to helping individuals achieve their goals and she is passionate about encouraging others to reach their full potential and enhance their independence.
